Web Content -Written For You or Google?

Posted By SailorMats on December 10, 2008

The problem is that although the web is a fantastic source of information there is also an enormous amount of rubbish, text written just to make you click to there page and then click on there ads. They don’t even want you to stay on there page they just want your traffic and click on an ad on there page. If one in a thousand does this they are happy and get some cash.
There are “content providers” that can fill your blog with articles for as low as $4 per post. You can get a complete 80 page ebook for 200 bucks on your favorite topic. No wonder the internet is filled with texts that doesn’t say anything.
So the problem is how to find content worth reading on the web. It is there and sometimes it is more informative and well written then the old media, which has its problems.
If searching for specific information or answers I’ve found it good to search in forums. Forums that are in the field of what you want to find.
When it comes to find quality blogs. When you found one that you like then check the ones that blog are linking to.
To be honest I think this blog is not top quality, it is just a start for me and English is my second language -if I may excuse myself. But I have the problem finding the good among the boring and I think many others feel the same.
One of my project that address this problem –TopBlogs4– will be a quality catalog with few but well worth reading blogs in specific topics, handpicked for you.
Stay tuned if you want.

The evolution of text

Posted By SailorMats on December 2, 2008

I found it fascinating that so much of the web is based on plain text, html, xml and php etc. Shouldn’t it be more effective to only use numbers. Probably not. Plain text in understandable languages is still king when it comes to communication.
If you also are fascinated by this and what an interactive web can evolve you will like this video.

Web Typography

Posted By SailorMats on November 17, 2008

T

here are loads and loads of information about web design. But as this article points out.

95% of the information on the web is written language. It is only logical to say that a web designer should get good training in the main discipline of shaping written information, in other words: Typography.

If there are a surplus of web designers there are definitely a shortage of web typographers. There are so many websites that are beautifully and professionally designed but so uncomfortable to read. It is like they try to make a piece of art instead of delivering a message.

Please, all you web designer, make your pages easy to read -learn web typography. Read the whole article, very interesting.

SailorMats

My name is Mats Fallenius living in much to cold Norway. As a curious and open minded person I love to read, learn and discover new things of my interest. With this mindset and a high speed internet connection I have become an information addict. It's overwhelming. Family and work are suffering because I spend to much time searching, checking my RSS reader for new posts and printing stuff to read later. My goal is to make my addiction more comfortable for both those around me and myself. Therefore this blog and the web/software developments below.
